According to the well-known Wikipedia Lobbying is this: “Lobbying in the United States describes paid activity in which special interests hire well-connected professional advocates, often lawyers, to argue for specific legislation in decision-making bodies such as the United States Congress. It is a highly controversial phenomenon, often seen in a negative light by journalists and the American public, and frequently misunderstood.[1] While lobbying is subject to extensive and often complex rules which, if not followed, can lead to penalties including jail, the activity of lobbying has been interpreted by court rulings as free speech and protected by the Constitution“.

As you all know college tuition has increased and seems to keep increasing. The worst part is our wallets seem to be shrinking. Terry Hartle of the non-profit American Council on Education says, “an umbrella group for colleges and universities, says perceptions may or may not reflect reality, but they matter because they drive behavior”. People in 2012 realize more than people in 1998 that degrees are important to gain a career status but increasing tuition seems to be in the way.
