We are asking you to cut letters that spell the word, out of a magazine.  Place the letters in an envelope or zip-lock bag and please write your word on the front. (Envelopes can also be found in Mod 6).

You can drop off your envelopes at Professor Nixon’s office in Mod 6 or my SEU mailbox #1977.

This Communication Collage Project will display the entire Communications department in a creative way. Lets have fun with this project!

Starbucks was established in 1971 as a single store in Seattle’s historic Pike Place Market.  They wanted to create a home, “A third place between work and home” (Starbucks).

Their Mission Statement:

“To inspire and nurture the human spirit – one person, one cup and one neighborhood at a time”.

Starbucks also has strategies to being their mission statement to fruition. The strategies are: Our Coffee, Our Partners, Our Customers, Our Stores, Our Neighborhood, and Our Shareholders.

Starbucks is known and loved by millions. With 15,000 stores in 50 countries Starbucks is reaching everyone with one cup of coffee at a time.

Under the “Responsibility: Ethical Local Global” tab on the Starbucks website they have a “Shared Values Blog“. Here Starbucks offers up to date blogs about the company and their whereabouts through the world.

The currently new post was published on February 17th, 2012. Its called “Sustainable Store Design in Action“.  Starbucks is trying its ultimate best to Go Green by building “The Reclaimed Drive-Thru” stores that use the recycled shipping containers. The shipping containers normally go to the dump and take up needed space.

“The result: a 450 square foot drive-thru and walk-up store made from four end-of-life-cycle shipping containers. One small 20-foot container holds garbage, recycling and storage, but other than that, the whole store is contained within the shells of four containers that have been reclaimed, refurnished, renewed and revived. And it works!” (Starbucks). This is the ending product:

Starbucks is doing a great job keeping their blog up to date with their recent activity as an organization. Maybe the blog is inconveniently placed, they have already solved the issue. Recent blog posts are on the front page of Starbucks website. Say they had not thought of this and fixed it. I believe Starbucks would respond very well and in a timely manner.

Lets toast to a great organization with a cup of coffee. mhm.

Public Relations as “the practice of managing the flow of information between an organization and its public’s”.

Corporate Communication is defined as “the message issued by a corporate organization, body, or institute to its public’s”.

“Business (also known as enterprise or firm) is an organization engaged in the trade of goods, services, or both to consumers”.

“A department is a part of a larger organization with a specific responsibility.”

A PR firm vs. a PR/Corporate Communication function within an organization. Where would you choose to work?

PR Firms offer several services for their clients. The PR Firm called AXIA displays all their services on their home page. The services include: Media Relations, Social Media, Corporate Communications, Reputation Management, Crisis Communications, Executive Media Training, Thought Leadership, Speaking Engagements, and Award Recognition.

Pros: Learn all aspects.

Cons: Multiple areas to know

A PR/Corporate Communication function within an organization creates a picture that shows a smaller function within this huge organization. The PR/Corporate Communication function would function in on a certain function. More precise then the broad word Public Relations.

Pro: More specified job title and narrow in on a particular subject.

Cons: Is bigger always better?

Every kid wants to have some sort of supernatural powers. I wanted to fly so bad that I had multiple dreams of flying. This little kid wanted to “use the force”.

Okay so we all know about if not watched the Movie Star Wars. Darth Vader has “the force” but uses it for the bad; evil! The kid in this Volkswagen commercial is wearing  the Darth Vader costume. He is dressed the part but he just could not seem to use “the force”. In the commercial the kids dad definitely has a sense of humor. While watching the add I felt for the kid, both when he was trying to use his powers and when his powers mysteriously worked. Here’s the clip:

Its a Volkswagen commercial. The commercial does not specifically brag and boast about the vehicle shown but the audience is given a great feeling; a feel good commercial. While giving the audience a good feeling (happiness), Volkswagen is showing off the special features of their new 2012 Passat . Within a certain distance, the Volkswagon can be started by pressing a button on the key. A pretty awesome feature. I love how the kid becomes stunned when “the force” is with him.

I do not quite understand what the uproar was about for I am not into politics very much. It seemed to be an important issue.

In the article a protester said, “Upsetting the Super Bowl – I couldn’t care less,” protester Lou Feldman of Lafayette said. “This is about my life and my family. Maybe it will make some people notice.”

I am not sure what kind of effect this had on the NFL. I would like to know though.

I would use the fourth model of public relations practice.

Wow you offered a ton of great ideas for super bowl! I sure wish I came across your blog before today so I could attempt the delicious recipes. The desserts were of course my favorite. Who says these recipes cant be tried because the super bowl is over? Awesome post!

While reading your blog post I literally said “mhm” out loud. I should start participating in Nutella day and get creative with nutella inspired recipes. The tart you made looks delicious and I love how easy it is! The great part about this recipe is that you can doing the steps in stages is pressed for time. I don’t think eating the entire tart would be a problem, I mean look at the picture! Great post!

Wow,  I did not know that 10% of wedding costs are for decorations and flowers. I agree that sometimes the smaller and more simple the item the bigger effect it has. I like the different color bottles and mason jars, two items that are very much in this season. Your site is adorable and I really enjoyed the pictures and website you mentioned. Thanks!

Emily I truly enjoyed this blog post. I have never heard of BirchBox before and I am suddenly very interested in this company. I just might pay the $10 dollars a month and experience the products first-hand. That, and I love getting mail. Whether it be packages or letters (snail mail). The idea of sending four or five products in a cute package to girls explaining the new products out on the market, awesome idea!

How beautiful! Weddings are such a joyous time to celebrate two peoples happiness in becoming “One”. That is my favorite part, a man and woman becoming “one” before God. What is your favorite part about a wedding? Another one of mine is looking at the groom when the bride first walks down the aisle towards him. Such a happy post!

The dictionary defines embracing as “to take or receive gladly or eagerly: accept willingly: to embrace an idea”. Embracing customers means not only asking for and listening to advice and/or comments but also putting what they say into action.

A quote from the book, “But the fact ism as you’ve seen in all the chapter leading up to this one, your customers are chomping at the bit to tell you what to do. They’re both complaining about praising your products on forums. They’re rating and reviewing your product on retail sites. They’re blogging and making videos and analyzing your every move. Whether you’re ready or not,, they are now part of your process–they are leaning over your managements shoulders”, (182).

Since customers are already offering their opinions for all to read and hear, why not include them in the process so their feedback is positive on virtual boards and blogs. Let your customers know they are appreciated. It will make a bigger impact then you think.

This is where caring for your customers comes into play. The definition of caring is “to act on; deal with; attend to”. Caring is asking customers their thoughts instead of waiting for complaints.

Another quote from the book, “… customers don’t take long to tell you what they want… they know whats wrong and how things can be fixed. They have ideas your development people and management haven’t thought of yet”, (183).

Caring means letting customers know they matter. Striving to give them the best quality for the best price and the asking them “what else?”.

So here for all my fellow bloggers…

I searched my whole name through Facebook and it did not show any results. I have my privacy settings up as private as they could go without deleting my Facebook.  Even though there is no such word as privacy on the internet, I am using all the privacy sites offer!!

Some sites offer basic background searches. I background checked myself and found out my age and name.

There is not much to find. I would like to see this as positive. I would rather my name to be posted everywhere throughout the internet.I would like to stay cautious with who I add on Facebook, Twitter, or any other website I am affiliated with.

I have found nothing, besides my name and age. I have come to the conclusion that Googles “no result page” is a great and positive sign. What people find matters. So be careful  and cautious when it comes to displaying your life and body on the web until the day Jesus arrives. Better safe than sorry. If you must place your life on the web, then proofread and keep to a minimum!!

Step 1: Find your key. Cleaning the head should give a better surface to work with.

Step 2: Apply Elmer’s glue to one side of the head.

Step 3: Shake glitter onto the key.

Step 4: Let the glue dry for an hour. Then flip the key over and repeat steps 1-4 on the opposite side.

The month of February is right around the corner. This means Christmas decorations are scarce and stores are prepared for the next holiday.

Girls are giving hints of jewelry and engagement rings with the help of jewelers adding holiday sales to their inventory.
